When the Mughal Emperor Akbar claimed Agra as his capital, he carried out an extensive renovation of the fort using red sandstone. It took over 4,000 workers and 8 years to renovate the fort.

 

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is located about an hour's drive towards the west of Agra. This abandoned city was founded in 1571, by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar, when he decided to shift his capital from Agra Fort, however, it was relocated back to Agra later on. There are plenty of places to visit in Fatehpur Sikri, namely, Buland Darwaza - Jama Masjid, Panch Mahal, Jodha Bai Palace, Hiran Minar and many more.
